Before 1 July 2014, he assumed the position of Croatian MEPs, he was employed at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing, University of Zagreb in science-teaching profession professor with tenure. In the period from January to July 2012, he was Assistant Minister in the Ministry of Environment and Nature Protection in the Department for the Environment and Sustainable Development. Scientific and professional work of Prof. Ph. D.. Davor Škrleca includes the issues of planning and operation of the electricity system, the integration of renewable energy sources and distributed generation in the electric power system, and the application of GIS systems (GIS) in electrical engineering and computer science. He was a leader of several international and national research projects. He is an active member in national and international professional organizations which perform or performed administrative functions, and the function of the national experts for advanced power networks – Smart Grids. In The European Parliament is a permanent member of the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety and substitute member of the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy and the Committee on Regional Development, as well as a member of the delegation for relations with Canada and substitute member of the delegation to the Joint Parliamentary Committee of EU and Turkey.
